Julie Anne San Jose Celebrates Birthday With Virlanie Foundation Kids at Dreamplay

With her busy schedule, Julie Anne San Jose, whose birthday was last May 17, only got to celebrate it last May 25 at Dreamplay in City of Dreams. It was such a meaningful day for her as she spent it with the kids from Virlanie Foundation, a non-profit organization that caters to street children in the Philippines.

Before enjoying the activities in Dreamplay, Julie Anne got to bond with the kids through a short program that Dreamplay has prepared for everyone. Even if I was there just observing, I can't help but smile seeing the kids having, probably, the best day of their life. Watching them having fun with the games, sharing stories and eating in the same table with their idol is just priceless.

Of course the fun didn't stop there. What's a birthday party without blowing of the cake right? Julie Anne and the kids were surprised by two very special guests: Shrek and Princess Fiona! They joined the celebrant as she thanked everyone, made her wish , and blew her birthday cake.

With all the good things happening on her studies and career, this is probably the best birthday she have had according to Julie Anne. She is very excited for the future: a new album will be released around first week of June, a tour of her very successful concert, and she's also planning to continue her studies then eventually teach in college. American Idiot to be staged in the New Globe Iconic Store

Several years back, it was just a dream of mine to see American Idiot live. I fell in love with it when I first heard the broadway version of 21 Guns. I was actually fine with just watching videos of it in Youtube thinking that it will be impossible for the production to be brought here in the Philippines. And then, just recently, the news came out...

Finally, American Idiot The Musical is going to be staged in Manila!

9Works Theatrical, in partnership with Globe, is bringing to the country the award-winning broadway musical inspired by the songs of Green Day, the American Idiot. 9Works Theatrical has been trying to get the rights of the musical for it to be shown here since 2012. It was only until late last year that they got a resounding YES from the producers.

Green Day's American Idiot revolves on the story of the three main characters, Johnny, Will, and Tunny, struggling to find meaning after the 9/11 incident. The show will bring the spirit and the energy of disenchanted youth searching for the meaning of life with some of the best songs of Green Day’s career, including 21 Guns, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, and Wake Me Up When September Ends.

Directed by Robbie Guevara, the Philippine-adaptation of Green Day's American Idiot will be featuring some of the best rock stars in the country lead by Jason Fernandez (former Rivermaya front man and The Voice of the Philippines Season 2 finalist), Miggy Chavez (Chicosci lead vocalist), and Nel Gomez (Grease, The Glass Menagerie). Joining them are some of the veteran theater actors namely Yanah Laurel (Spring Awakening, Rizal X) and Alex Godinez (Grease, High School Musical), Ela Lisondra (Disney Paris and Hong Kong, and recent Miss Saigon alumnus), Philippine Rock icon Basti Artadi (Wolfgang lead singer), Norby David (former Rivermaya lead vocalist), Kai Atienza (GMA 7 artist), Ariel Reonal (seasoned thespian, Hong Kong Disney and Miss Saigon alumnus), Gian Gloria (Euro Pop Berliner Perle finalist, Marco Polo musical), Mako Alonso (La Cage aux Folles, Rivalry), Sarah Facuri (Grease, No Filter), Chesko Rodriguez (La Cage aux Folles, Universal Studios Singapore), Shalee Vicencio (Disney’s Camp Rock, Alice in Wonderland), Mark Tayag (Rent, The Wedding Singer, Grease) and Kendrick Ibasco (Pinocchio, Rivalry).

Here's a 'really short' snippet on the cast's performance during the press conference. Too bad we can't upload the full video due to property rights issues. Anyway, this will still give you a glimpse on what it is to expect in this musical.

Another exciting thing about this production is that it will open the newest Globe Iconic Store's entertainment facility. The world-class Globe Iconic Store, located in Bonifacio Global City Ampitheater, is pioneering a glass bridge that connects two separate stores in opposite buildings. On its sides are two massive LED screens, thus making it convertible into a performance space.
