Black Box Productions Presents "Mula sa Buwan"

Black Box Productions proudly presents its first theater production “MULA SA BUWAN”, a new Filipino musical about love, ideals, and the heartbreaks in between.

Based on French poet Edmond Rostand’s play Cyrano de Bergerac, “ Mula Sa Buwan ” is now set in 1940s Manila, among young ROTC cadets and blushing colegialas. The play shows the innocence and beauty of our nation where music, harana, kundiman, wit, passion, and hope abound! However, when World War II strikes, virtue, honor, and love are all tested – the young now forced to suddenly grow up as men. The story moves to a time after the war, to a field of ruble, of forgotten memories, of heroes lost in a country struggling to survive. At the center of it all, the tragic love story between Cyrano, Roxane and Christian.

“Mula sa Buwan” is a brainchild of two prolific artists namely Pat Valera who conceptualized, wrote the book / lyrics and directed the production together with William Elvin Manzano who co-wrote the original lyrics and composed the original music. And it was in 2010 at the University of Asia and the Pacific under Dulaang Rock Opera Company, when they first produced “ Mula sa Buwan” transforming the timeless piece into a Filipino musical. The run captivated the hearts of the public and was well-received by the critics.

Since then, the duo has patiently reworked the material to make it more moving and relevant.  And come December 2016, a full, grand, and elaborate production will grace the stage – once more bringing laughter, tears and remembrance to a much broader market.

MULA SA BUWAN is set to open on December 2 and will run until Dec. 4 at the Irwin Lee Theater located at the Ateneo de Manila University, Loyola Heights, QC. Performance schedules are as follows: Dec. 2 – 8 pm; Dec. 3 – 3 pm; Dec. 4 - 3 pm and 8 pm.

The cast of “ Mula sa Buwan “ is led by Nicco Manalo and Boo Gabunada who alternately plays the role of Cyrano; KL Dizon as Roxane; Fred Lo and Edward Benosa who alternately plays the role of Christian.

Kristoffer Martin grateful for receiving the Best Single Performance by an Actor award

Kapuso actor Kristoffer Martin recently got recognized by an award-giving body and was given the Best Single Performance by an Actor for his remarkable acting in an episode of Magpakailanman. The Magpakailanman episode entitled "Mag-ama sa Bilangguan" is a story about a father (played by John Arcilla) and son (played by Kristoffer Martin) who, unfortunately, met for the first time inside the jail.

Here's a snippet of his award-winning stint on Magpakailanman:

Kristoffer Martin is very honored for receiving such an award and, admittedly, it adds a bit of pressure to do even better with his craft and prove to the people that he truly deserves it. More than the recognition though, Kristoffer is very much grateful to the audience, especially to the people behind PMPC, for appreciating all his efforts.

Many have been asking his secret, but according to him, he's just being natural. He just loves what he does and strives to be at his best. What's important for him is the mark that he'll leave to whoever will see his work.

Kristoffer is looking forward to more challenging roles in his future projects. Since most of the people who knows him so well often say that they're seeing "Kristoffer" in most of his roles, this time, he wants his roles to be different. More like "Heath Ledger Joker" type of roles in particular.

Kristoffer is currently busy with his ongoing TV series with Joyce Pring and Thea Tolentino, Hahamakin Ang Lahat, airing on GMA Afternoon Prime.

Her View From The Top: Whether in Career or Beauty, Renee Calls The Shots

There’s beauty in power—and power in beauty.  That, in essence, is what Renee Alcantara found out.
Running her own company Southwest Persues Construction and Development Corporation as its President and CEO entails making important decisions day in and day out.  She has to face different people—business partners, suppliers, and government officials in the course of her work.

Early on, Renee realized that it’s not easy being a boss at what many consider as “a man’s world” - the construction industry.  “I have to assert myself as a woman and know the ins and outs of the business like the back of my hand.  It is a difficult job, but one that I’ve learned to love,” Renee points out.

She says her success took years of hard work, but the pay off is fulfilling.

Because of her position and status, Renee cannot take chances with how she looks and how she presents herself to others.

According to Renee, beauty has a very important role in her career and personal life because it makes her feel confident.  “For me, looking good translates to feeling good,” she explains.

RENEE’S MUST-HAVES FOR BEAUTY REGIMEN AND TREATMENT

From the start, Renee opted to go to a Philippine Dermatological Society (PDS) board certified dermatologist.

“I consult with my PDS Dermatologist regularly because I know that I will get the best treatment since she is an expert in beauty.  She knows exactly what my skin needs,” Renee shares.

For her beauty regimen, she says she washes her face in the morning and in the evening before going to bed. She also applies moisturizer every night and puts on sunblock every morning.

But for her regular beauty needs, enhancements, and treatments, she visits her PDS Dermatologist at least once a month for the following:

  • Facial for cleansing;
  • Diamond peel to tighten the pores and smoothen the skin;
  • Revlite treatment to remove irregular pigmentation and reduce fine lines and wrinkles;
  • Face contouring or RF for facial tightening and anti-aging;

Why did Renee choose to see a PDS Dermatologist over others?

“I don’t like to “gamble”, even in business.  I want to be sure of the results so just like how I chose my business partners, I also carefully selected my dermatologist.  That’s why a PDS Dermatologist is my choice,” Renee states.

Renee adds, “Aside from making my skin beautiful, healthy, and glowing, I’m also updated on all the latest procedures, current trends, and formulas in skin enhancement that will make my skin look younger than my age.”

Renee also believes that women should invest in beauty to maintain youthfulness.  She added that being beautiful is a powerful position to be in because you can inspire other people to be confident and beautiful themselves.

“Confidence radiates pure happiness and real beauty, and that’s what matters, at the end of the day,” Renee concludes.

B is for Baihana? I say, B is for BRAVO BAIHANA!

I may have just learned about them lately, but seeing BAIHANA perform in the AKAPELA concert made me a fan in an instant! And just last night, I've witnessed yet another milestone in their career as they celebrated their 8th anniversary as a group through a concert dubbed as "B is for Baihana".

I really love listening to the classy sound of jazz music. If you're not too familiar with it, think Michael Buble or Richard Poon. Watching the girls having fun on stage as they blend a touch of their style to some of our favorite hits is truly entertaining for me.

B is for Baihana 07

In their one-night only concert, Baihana has showcased their impressive vocal harmony through series of covers and original songs backed by the amazing arrangements performed by the band.

They were joined by Nyoy Volante in the Jersey Boys medley, where the latter played as one of the leads in a recent Manila staging of the highly-acclaimed musical.

The girls also performed an a capella medley of some of the famous commercial jingles we often hear on television and radio. They already did it in the AKAPELA concert, but last night was a surprise as they called Myke Salomon on stage and asked him to join them in the number. Despite being caught off guard, Myke, who has already done several musical productions like Rak of Aegis and 3 Stars and a Sun, still did a great job providing accompaniment to the girls with his beatboxing skills.

One of my favorite performances that night is the Katy! the Musical medley. Joined by the maestro himself, Ryan Cayabyab, Baihana sang some of the popular songs from the Filipino musical that based on the life of Katy dela Cruz, the Queen of Philippine Vaudeville and Jazz.

B is for Baihana 02

Maestro Ryan Cayabyab, father to one of the Baihana girls - Krina, has been very supportive of the group. He even made a new arrangement of one his popular songs, Mamang Kutsero. Compared to the original, this new version is more upbeat and lively.

Baihana isn't just a bunch of singers. Apart from singing, they also are into musical arrangement and composition. Isaw, one of their original songs composed by Krina Cayabyab, tells about her experience on eating this famous Filipino favorite streetfood. Listen to it and you might just get some tips on your next food trip.

They also gave us a glimpse of their album by singing more of their original songs.

B is for Baihana 04

As the show is about to come to an end, the Asia's Nightingale, Ms. Lani Misalucha, joined the girls and shared to everyone her fun experiences with the girls during her concert tour abroad.

B is for Baihana 06

Together with them, she performed one of her new songs, for the first time on stage, Unbreakable.

And to cap the fun night of good music, Baihana ended the show with a festive medley of some of our favorite Christmas songs like Winter Wonderland, Pasko Na Naman, Frosty the Snowman, and Let It Snow.

Spending the night watching these girls perform is truly worth braving the traffic of a Friday rush hour! Thank you so much Krina Cayabyab, Anna Achacoso-Graham, and Mel Torre, collectively known as Baihana, for, once again, sharing your amazing unique talent!

I may have just learned about them lately, but seeing BAIHANA perform in the AKAPELA concert made me a fan in an instant!  And just last ...

Truth be told, jazz music may not really be for everyone that is why I am so happy that Baihana is being given the break they truly deserve. It isn't the first time that I've seen them perform live and I am definitely excited to see them again on stage.

Here's one of my favorite performances of the group during the AKAPELA concert with PINOPELA. The songs are just so nostalgic that I can't contain my laughter while I enjoy watching them. GMA Dominated Nationwide Ratings for the month of October

GMA Network strengthened its lead in the race for nationwide ratings supremacy, based on data from the industry’s widely trusted ratings service provider Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

For the period of October 1 to 31 (with October 23 to 31 based on overnight data), GMA continued to lead competition in NUTAM with a 37.4 percent average household audience share, ahead of ABS-CBN’s 35.6 percent by 1.8 points.

GMA scored top ratings across all dayparts in NUTAM, including primetime due to the consistently strong performance of its programs on this hotly contested block.

Six of the ten most watched programs in NUTAM belonged to GMA with Encantadia, the 2016 version of the well-loved Kapuso telefantasya emerging as the highest-rating Kapuso show nationwide.

ENCANTADIA LEADS (L-R): Gabbi Garcia as Alena, Glaiza de Castro as Pirena, Kylie Padilla as Amihan, and Sanya Lopez as Danaya

Completing the list of GMA programs in the top 10 are flagship newscast 24 Oras, top-rating comedy program Pepito Manaloto, multi-awarded news magazine program Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, primetime series Alyas Robinhood, and weekly drama anthology Magpakailanman.

In Urban Luzon, GMA won across all dayparts and registered an average household share of 41.9%, while ABS-CBN posted only 31.3%, which is 10.6 points behind GMA’s total day average.

More programs from GMA also occupied the list of top shows in Urban Luzon. Encantadia kept its winning streak and took the top spot over-all in this particular area.

Magic ng Pasko: GMA Launches 2016 Christmas Station ID

It's Christmas season again and it has been a tradition already that leading TV networks release their Christmas Station ID featuring their artists. This year, GMA is doing away with what we used to see during Christmas season.

With the theme "Maniwala sa Magic ng Pasko", the country's first locally-produced 3D animated Christmas campaign is featuring inspirational clips that every Filipino family can surely relate to. This is going to be a series of three different stories that will inspire everyone in believing in the magic of Christmas.

"During such a busy time of the year, we hope that, by spreading the message of hope, every Kapuso will get to experience the joy and limitless possibilities that come with believing in the magic of the Season" - GMA Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe Gozon

Last November 7, GMA has already launched the first of three videos, the Magic Crayons. The story showed how a child's dream of celebrating Christmas as one family came to reality. Before the airing, we were joined by some of the Kapuso artists and they shared to us their magical Christmas experiences.

This fun interaction with GMA's Ken Chan, Ryza Cenon, Juancho Trivinio, Hiro Peralta, Marlann Flores, and Ayra Mariano was simultaneously broadcasted through GMA Network's Facebook account.

The Maniwala sa Magic ng Pasko campaign comes at the heels of GMA's animated anthology series Alamat's win of the country's first "Best of Festival" Award at the US International Film and Video Festival (USIFVF), a recognition given to an outstanding entry among Gold Camera awardees in the USIFVF.

"It is felt that the use of animated images best complements the essence of our Holiday message this year - to believe in the magic of Christmas. Through this, it is hoped that even our youngest Kapusos will enjoy our campaign and embrace the meaning of our Christmas message this season - GMA President and COO Mr. Gilberto Duavit Jr.

Here's the first of the three-part series of GMA's "Maniwala sa Magic ng Pasko" campaign featuring the official theme song sung by Julie Anne San Jose:

GMA's Christmas stories are the brainchild of GMA's Program Support Department headed by Regie Bautista (First Vice President), Dino Garcia (Assistant Vice President), Hasmin Marable (Assistant Vice President), BJ Camaya (Associate Creative Director), Catherine Ko (Project Manager), Nicolle Castillo (Writer), and Juan Javier, Reybert Ramos, Laqy Laqueo (Artists); and brought to life by GMA's Post Production Department composed of Edward Achacoso (First Vice President), Paul Ticzon (Vice President and Head of Operations), and April Canasa-Angeles (Senior Manager, Video Graphics Section).

Travel in Style with World Juanderer

Why choose beauty over quality when you can have both? When it comes to my stuff, I make sure that I'm getting my money's worth. I always consider both durability and visual appeal when buying an item. I'd rather spend a few more bucks for a quality item over something that I know won't even last long.

I do love to travel, yes! I've already invested on some things that I always bring with me during trips. And since it isn't something that I can do in a weekly nor monthly basis for now, I make sure that my travel necessities will last long until my next trip.

Let me share with you some of these stylish must-haves that come in handy during your fun adventures around the world:

1. Passport Wallet

Your passport is your key to travelling abroad. It serves as your identification when you're out of the country that's why you always have to safe guard it at all times.

There are so many passport holders available in the market but what I love about World Juanderer's Passport Wallet is that it doesn't just protect my protect my passport, but it can also store my IDs, cards, and money at the same time. For me, It's better than having a separate wallet to be mindful of. Less worries means more time to enjoy my trip!

2. Luggage Tag

Who says a tiny item isn't as important and as functional as the others? Small as it may seem, a luggage tag is definitely a must-have whenever you travel because, I bet, you don't want to lose your stuff when you are half way across the world. Though there are so many cute tags out there that are definitely an eye-catcher, unfortunately, it isn't just the thing that should be factored in. Without the knowledge on how your things are being handled as soon as you check it in, your identification tag should be durable as well to avoid losing your stuff or have someone grab the wrong luggage.

What I love about this World Juanderer luggage tag is that it gets to satisfy both my needs and wants in a single sophisticated tiny item. I like that it's design is so simple yet the leather finish makes it really look elegant and stylish.

3. Travel/Food Journal

If you're into documenting your trips the traditional way, this Moleskin journal sure does come in handy. Aside from the famous tourist spots that each country has to offer, food is also one of the things I always look forward to whenever I visit a place. This journal has the basics that you need to know about restaurants and it has a lot of space for you to write about your food trips and whatnots.

World Juanderer does not just offer the above must-have travel merchandises. Whether you're up for a simple trip or a luxury travel experience, they have the perfect travel package that's right within your budget.
